Today we’re going to talk about a special kind of Dhikhr!

All of our remembrances have a high value and will benefit us immensely. Of these, it is remembrance using the Qur’an that is best for us. There are various things you can do to increase the quality of your worship, as well as, Quran recitations. Moreover, improving your Tajweed and recitation is one of the easiest ways to earn more rewards while reciting the Qur’an.

Let’s start with that and learn more as we go on.

The Best of Adhkar

Regular Adhkar is one of the best ways to remember Allah SubhanaHu Wa Ta’Ala. And the best of Adhkar is reciting the Qur’an. Almost all the duas and Adhkar we recite are directly from the Qur’an while the rest are from Hadith. To increase our love for the Holy Book, we should recite often and learn Quran online or otherwise. But why should we love It? Well, it all starts with the very second Surah in the Qur’an. In Surah Baqarah, Ayah 2 we find:” ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًۭى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ. This translates to “This is the Book! There is no doubt about it, it is a guide for those mindful of Allah”.

Moreover, this Ayah teaches us two things about the Holy Book

  1. There is no doubt about it: We can understand that this book is true and clear and there is no ambiguity about it.
  2. It is a guide for those who are mindful of Allah: This is self-explanatory. As individuals with Takwa, we need no other type of guidance to get through this worldly life.

Not only is the Quran the words of Allah, but it is also a guide for us to follow in every aspect of our life. Only through regular recitation and pondering can we internalize what it teaches us.

Now the question is, why does Tajweed or our recitation matter? The answer to this question is below.

Improve Your Recitation

One of these ways is to become proficient in Arabic. As you can see from the 3rd Ayah of Surah Muzammil “وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيل” meaning “and recite the Qur’an with measured recitation”. What this means is that we are supposed to beautify our recitation with proper Tajweed.

Tajweed is a set of rules to ensure the correct pronunciation of the letters in the Qurán. This also covers the qualities of each letter (heavy, light, deep, etc.). The definition of Tajweed means to enhance something or make it excellent.  In this case, it means to give every letter its right while you recite the Qur’an. Further, Tajweed is an art and a science where we can learn to pronounce and recite as our Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) did.

Besides, a basic understanding and applicable knowledge of Tajweed is considered a community duty. If you are not a scholar, you should still know how to recite the Qur’an by the rules. At the same time, there’s no obligation to know every rule as a teacher would.

Fortunately, you can easily improve your recitation by studying with Quran tutors online. From basic Tajweed to Hifz, it all starts with a single step and that is the intention.

Benefits Of Reciting Often

Before we look at the benefits, let’s start with two wonderful hadiths.

  1. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah has His own people among mankind.” They asked: “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” He replied: “They are the people of the Qur’ān: the people of Allah and His chosen people.”
  2. “The Qur’ān will be brought on the Day of Judgement and it will say (for its reciter): ‘My Lord, adorn him.’ So he will be made to wear a crown of nobility. Then it will say: ‘My Lord, give him more.’ So he will be clothed in a suit of nobility. Then it will say: ‘My Lord, be pleased with him.’ So Allah will be pleased with him and it will be said to him: ‘Recite and rise, and be increased in reward with every verse.’”

This shows us that the Qur’an should be close to our hearts at all times. After all, there are so many more advantages in this life too.

  • When you recite the Quran in your home, it lights up the place like a star for those who abide in heaven. Also, make your household shine like the stars with your recitation.
  • The more you recite it, the more you will love the Quran and improve your recitation.
  • Also, every letter in the Qur’an is worth 10 Hasanat. So you earn 100s of Hasanat just by reciting one ayah.
  • Moreover, as you recite, especially with good Tilawat, you become Ma’al Kiram Al Barara. You will be with the highest of angels and they will be witness to your recitation.

It is simply not possible to cover everything that you gain by reciting. What we need to do is recite in the best manner and hope for the best rewards.

How to Understand and Love the Qur’an

The key reason for reciting is to reflect upon the Qur’an. To do this, we should recite it calmly and wholeheartedly. Additionally, you can learn the Quran Online or go to classes, but focus on improving your recitation.

Reciting with Tarteel

As quoted above from Surah Muzzamil, Allah SubhanaHu Wa Ta’Ala has instructed us to recite with ‘Tarteel’. This means to recite slowly and patiently. We also understand that one should focus on making sure each word is distinct and won’t exceed limits. Moreover, to recite with Tarteel, we should begin with learning the Tajweed rules.

Learning to recite the Qur’an has nothing to do with age. Not to mention, we have easy access to a plethora of resources today. Moreover, you can find the best Qur’an tutors online and set the classes during your free time. All you need is a device with access to the internet.

Beautify Your Voice

  • As you recite the Qur’an, focus on beautifying your voice.
  • Pause at the end of each Ayah to reflect on its meaning and catch your breath. This will prepare you to read the next Ayah with more focus and clarity.
  • Moreover, as you pay attention to the fluidity, tone, and melody of your Qira’a, you will find yourself more connected to it.

You will feel that you don’t want to stop and this will encourage you to keep coming back to it.

Cry While You Recite

The Qur’an is full of beautiful examples, lessons, encouragement, comfort, and meaning for all of our experiences. So strengthen yourself emotionally and recite it with Kushu. It is sure to:

  • Move your heart
  • Increase your fear of Allah
  • Bring peace into your heart and your home

Certain Ayahs also protect yourself and your home as long as you recite them daily. On the days that you cannot find time, make sure to read these. For instance, recite the last two ayahs of Surah Baqarah every day at home. Further, it will protect your home from Shayateen.
